One of France's oldest and most beautiful wine producing regions:

map languedocLanguedoc-Roussillon covers the area on the border of the Mediterranean sea between the west of the Rhône and Camargue to the border of Spain and the Pyrénées mountains. Thevineyards of this sunny region are one of the largest expanses of vine growing region in the world.

Cotes du Roussillon

From the hills of Corbières to the Pyrénées mountains, Roussillon is the sunniest region in France. The climate, the history and the traditions of Roussillon make it more similar to Spain than to Languedoc. This is maybe the reason why Roussillon wines are still fighting to find an identity.

Carignan is the most important grape variety in Roussillon. A local grape called Lladoner Pelut is also used along with Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Red wines are generally spicy and medium body. Rosé are fruity. White wines are made with Macabeu and local Malvoisie.

CLOS DES FÉES, LES SORCIÈRES, 2012 (December Vineyard Gems) A real delight, from an outstanding wine maker. Clos des Fées wines are some of the most sought after in Roussillon.  Directly from the vineyard. Exclusively on The French Cellar   languedoc-roussillon-wine-region-1

Coteaux du Languedoc ("coteaux" means that a hill is covered by vines) has a very long history. The Greeks planted there probably the first vine in  France. It was 500 years B.C. A long time before the Romans, although they dramatically improved the wine making process themselves. Coteaux du Languedoc is a large wine area, from Narbonne in the west to the edge of Camargue in the east and up to the Cévennes mountains.

MAS DES AGRUNELLES, L’INDIGÈNE, 2010 (December Vineyard Gems) Sumptuous nose and palate. A splendid wine from Languedoc served in the best fine-dining restaurants in France and in the world.  Directly from the vineyard. Exclusively on The French Cellar
