Sancerre
Jan 01, 2018

sancerreSancerre wines are located on the left bank of the Loire at the eastern edge of the Loire Valley, opposite Pouilly-Fumé.

The Sancerre AOC includes 2,800 hectares covered by 14 communes. The hillsides are often steeps, the soils are diversified (chalk, gravel, limesone and flint) which gives the wines a great complexity. The appellation produces 80% of Sauvignon Blanc but also red (15%) and rosé (5%) wines exclusively from Pinot Noir.

The distinctively smoky, gunflint character of Sauvignon Blanc from this area is referred locally as pierre a fusil. The whites also reveal intense aromas of citrus fruit and grassiness. The flavors are refreshing and dry with fresh fruit and mineral notes and its hallmark crisp acidity.

The reds reveal notes of cherry and limestone accompanied with flavors of light to medium bodied with brambly fruit and cherry flavors, refreshing acidity and low tannins.
